Make sure you get a written contract. Insist on a written proposal and examine it for complete descriptions of the work and specifications, including tasks the roofer will perform, types of materials provided, financial arrangements, and guarantees.

  "The owner is a pleasure to work with. He is very professional and explains everything that will be done. The crew went around the house and moved anything away so nothing was damaged. Afterward they cleaned up as if they were never there. All nails were picked up, everything was put back in place. A couple of months later we had a leak in our bedroom ceiling. David came out right away, found the problem had nothing to do with our new roof, it was a vent pipe that opened up, and fixed the issue for us even though it was not related to our roof.
