Tile include slate, cement, clay, and composite materials. Tile roofing materials offer very long lifespans, fire resistance, sophisticated aesthetic value, low maintenance, and are not vulnerable to rot or insects.

Slate is an upscale roofing material with a very natural look. These shingle-like slivers of rock can be arranged in a wide variety of patterns. Slate is heavy and sometimes requires extra support. It can crack by walking on it, which may complicate gutter painting, window washing, or gutter cleaning.

Cement tiles can be manufactured to look like wood, slate, metal, or composite materials. Simulated cedar shakes made of cement solve the fire resistance concern associated with wood shakes. Simulated slate made of cement is lighter than slate, reducing the weight burden on a structure.

Clay tiles are usually found in the Southwestern United States, Central America, Italy, and Spanish Mission styles.
